Jerry Uelsmann once said “The camera is a license to explore.” I grew up watching my mother taking photographs of everything and anything and at a young age, I too turned to photography to fuel my curiosity of the world around me. The camera became my tool to express myself and how I perceived the world. As a child, I was compelled by light and my environment, both the beautiful and the not so picturesque. I became most drawn to landscapes and scenery. I credit some of my nature wanderlust to my ancestors since my last name, Boyce, is derived from Northern Irish or Scottish topographic roots meaning someone who lived by the woods.

Today, my photography is still motivated by my lust to explore and capture my relationships with my surroundings. Often times, I prefer to explore a location without preconceived thoughts of the outcome and instead let the environment and my relation to it dictate the process and final piece. Not only do I like to explore my relationship with nature but I also like to explore the boundaries of photography in both film and digital formats. The process of experimentation and the unknown are integral to my finished work. My work ultimately aims to inspire people to question their surroundings and appreciate them in a new light.
